About Us
History
Our chapter is named for the Battle of Rockfish that was fought in Duplin County on August 2, 1781. The British were in possession of Wilmington at the time and when news reached Colonel James Kenan that the King’s army were advancing to New Bern, a battle plan was formed. The colonel along with 250 members of the Duplin Militia were joined by Major Griffin from Halifax accompanied by 150 men. Unfortunately, the British were better equipped and claimed the victory.
The Battle of Rockfish was not of decisive importance in the American Revolutionary War, but it did help to harass the British and contribute to their ultimate defeat.
